Dive shop

A dive shop is much more likely to have all of the equipment that a diver needs than any other store might. Even though sporting goods stores or big box retailers sometimes have certain items that can be used for scuba diving, most divers do not like to shop at these places. There are two main reasons why:

• Less variety – A visitor to a dive shop will have the opportunity to peruse a lot of different types of equipment and gear. Big box retailers typically will only carry one or two of the top brands and not worry about the rest. People who are loyal to certain brands may not find the brands they like at a large retailer.
• Less knowledge – It is wishful thinking to assume that a person who works at a large retailer will be able to tell you much about diving equipment. Because most large retailers have their dive equipment stuck somewhere in the sporting goods department, they are responsible for knowing a little about everything – which means they probably know only a little about scuba diving.
However, employees in a dive shop are pretty much guaranteed to be able to help a person find the equipment or information for which he is searching. Dive shop employees only deal with dive equipment; therefore they typically have a pretty good idea about the kinds of things a diver would ask about.
