Diving equipment

Before getting in the water, a person needs to make some decisions about the kind of diving equipment he may want to use. Some of the things a diver needs to consider are:

• Rent vs. buy – There are some pieces of diving equipment that are always good to buy, while there are other pieces of equipment that are sometimes better to rent. For example, it is usually a good idea for a person to own his wet suit because it is purchased to fit properly. Rental wetsuits may not fit as well. A mask, regulator and a mouthpiece are also good to own.

For those people who only dive every so often, it may make more fiscal sense to rent an air cylinder, because they can be expensive to buy and supply. However avid divers are better off owning their own.

• What kind of diving – The kind of scuba equipment a person purchases often depends on what kind of diving he plans to do. For example, a deep, long dive will require the diver to buy something like a re-breather or an air tank pack that is able to hold more than one tank. Shorter dives, on the other hand, will not require these items.

• Float right – It can be kind of hard for a non-diver to understand what it is like to dive in deep water with a heavy pack strapped to his back, but the fact is that it is not easy to stay straight in a situation like this. A buoyancy compensator is one of the pieces of diving equipment many people buy. This piece of diving equipment can help a diver’s body weight to react to gravity and water in a way that will let the body be able to swim correctly.
