Diving gear
Because diving gear is not something that most people
want to pay to replace very often, it is important that they take the
proper precautions to maintain the gear. Some of the things include:
• Mask – After completing a dive, the diver should rinse
the mask under fresh water to make sure that all salt is removed. If
there is no fresh water to rinse it in just after the dive, it may be
best to keep it wet so that the salt does not dry on it. Rinse the mask
as soon as fresh water becomes available.
• Inspect the fins – The fins – like the mask –
should also be rinsed after every use. However, the fins should also
be inspected a little more closely from time to time. A diver should
look to make sure the straps of the fins are in good shape and not torn.
These fins should be stored in a cool area in order to ensure the heat
from the sun does not warp them.
• Buoyancy compensator – A buoyancy compensator is another
piece of diving gear that should be washed after each use. Both the
inside as well as the outside of the device should be rinsed. In order
to best maintain this device, it is best to always keep it partially
inflated.
• Tank – The tank is one piece of diving gear that most
divers will want to check extra carefully for corrosion or damage. The
tank should be inspected on the outside fairly often by the diver himself,
but there should also be internal checks done by a professional at least
once a year. Because this is one of the most important pieces of diving
equipment, extra time should be taken when inspecting it.
