Scuba certification

A person interested in earning scuba certification must learn a few things that are very important. Because a diver cannot receive certification until displaying adequate knowledge of how to be safe in the water, it is imperative that a person pays close attention in class.

A few of the things a person must know in order to receive scuba certification include:

• Breathing techniques – A person must know how to properly breathe at different levels underneath the sea. He also must understand what swimming at certain levels does to his lungs. One of the main things a diver who is seeking scuba certification needs to learn is how quickly to ascend out of the water.

Typically swimming down into the water does not pose much of a risk because a diver does not swim faster than his lungs are able to adapt to the change in pressure. However, there is quite a large risk for those divers ascending from the water. Because a person can exit the water faster than their lungs can adjust to the change in pressure, severe lung damage could be done to the person who attempts to ascend too quickly. Doing this could even prove to be fatal.

• Mask change – There are times that a person who is diving starts to have water seep into his mask. This can be dangerous because impaired vision can cause a diver to panic and lose track of where he is. Before a diver can receive his scuba certification, he must learn to empty his mask of water while he is under the water. This is a process of several steps that involves proper breathing techniques. A person needs to be able to complete this process seamlessly before he or she can receive scuba certification.
