Scuba Diving FAQs
What is the one thing I can do to best maintain
my equipment?
The best thing any diver can do is simply to rinse his or her equipment
as soon as his or her dive finishes. Salt water that dries onto the
equipment tends to have a very corrosive effect. Because of this, people
tend to need to replace equipment more often that they would like. By
doing something such as pouring some bottled water on the equipment
or running tap water over it, a person can greatly improve the life
of the equipment.
Should I rent or buy my scuba equipment?
This really depends on how often a person goes scuba diving. However,
as a general rule, any person who scuba dives fairly often is better
off buying his own equipment. The only piece of equipment that he might
be better off renting would be an air cylinder, because these devices
can be expensive to maintain.
Do I need scuba certification before I become a scuba diver?
In a word, yes. Although there are not underwater police who will arrest
a person for diving without certification, it is a fact that those who
choose to dive without going through the proper training take their
lives into their own hands. For a safe dive, certification is imperative.
